Focus on gamma-H2AX foci - 2 new papers

Two papers published in the the last week demonstrate the value of DRAQ5 and the ImagestreamX imaging flow cytometer:

Parris et al. (Brunel University, UK) describe an enhanced methodology to study DNA damage foci. Increased resolution of the Amnis ImagestreamX (Merck Millipore/EMD Millipore) imaging flow cytometer enables better confidence in the overlaying of  ɣ-H2AX foci spot count on top of the robust nuclear segmentation provided by far-red DRAQ5.

Endres et al. (SUNY, USA) have performed a detailed study of the impact of ROS on transcriptional and translational  pathways using a specific gene knockout.  One of the parameters of study was the quantification of ɣ-H2AX foci spots overlaid on the nuclear segmentation afforded by the far-red DNA probe DRAQ5 and imaged and analysed on the ImagestreamX.
